Stickers v. Vinyl Decals

We sell both stickers and layered vinyl decals at Upstairs Arts. Each has its advantages and drawbacks-- here are a few things to consider:

  1. Stickers: everybody knows these! We use archival quality ink, meaning that it will last a lifetime indoors and a very long time outdoors. They are waterproof and UV resistant– adding lamination certainly helps with both. When laminated, print and cut stickers are pretty resilient and are safe on the top rack of the dishwasher.
  2. Layered Vinyl Decals: these are created by layering different colors of vinyl on top of each other. They are more fade resistant than stickers, but also more fragile unless covered with a transparent laminate. I do not suggest running vinyl decals through the dishwasher, because small pieces may detach from the design.
